Quite a lot of our bikes at Practical Cycles are heavy hauling cargo bikes - the Kona Ute sits between these and 'regular' bikes. It's no half-baked, wishy-washy token jesture though. It is a seriously Practical bicycle that will serve any family or individual that wants to cut down on their car usage.

Seriously heavy loads aren't the Kona Utes forté. What it excells at is carrying that bit more than two panniers can could carry on a regular bike but still enables you to whizz along at a decent pace if needs be - thanks to the lightweight aluminium frame and clever choice of parts.

The wheels are 700c - something you won't find on any 'heavy-haul' cargo bike. Small diameter wheels are best for bearing BIG loads. Larger diameter wheels are best for going faster and rolling over rutted surfaces - perfect for the urban jungle!

So, the Kona Ute is perfect for the commute cyclist who wants to cycle to work fast but needs to carry a weeks change of clothes for the office, laptop and important books and papers. The Ute is great for parents going to the creche or nursery - yes - you can fit child seats to the Kona Ute's rack - we receommend the GMG Glassics range of seats (see our Child Seats shop page). It's also a competent shopping bike too. A weeks groceries for a family of four is no problem - the Kona Ute comes with one waterproof pannier and two can be fitted (The Yuba Go Getter Bag also fits giving you 85 litres of capacity in each bag).

The Kona Ute can be justifiably bought as a bike to do everything, utility riding, commuting, a little light tow-path touring and even as an urban runaround for your mates (on the rear wooden deck!).

This year, for the first time, the Kona Ute comes with Avid BB5 cable disk brakes front and rear.
