We are one of the first to bring these Dutch ID bikes to the UK.
The Double Dutch Bike is a modern take on a classic Dutch design.It looks heavy but isn't. It's made of aluminium tubing which has thick walls and oversized cross section to achieve excellent carrying capability and stiffness.
Front Carrier
The Double Dutch front carrier is integrated into the main frame of the bike. It is not attached to the forks and is therfore independent of the steering - so when you turn the handlebars left or right the rack stays in the centre. So what you cry?!
If you have a heavy load on the front carrier rack and it's attached to the steering you may easily loose control of a bike. Not so with the Double Dutch. The load is carried on the bike frame itself and thus prevents nasty wobbles that turn into full scale head over heels incidents.
Rear Rack
Again, like the front rack, the rear rack is bolted securely to the main top tube of the Double Dutch bike. And there's two options of rack. The standard rack will accept panniers which is great for shopping. The other rack is a childseat specific rack. This is similar to the standard rack but has an 'indent' on each side to accommodate the legs of a child seat. The rack is designed especially for Bobike child seats (which we sell!)
Gears and brakes
The models we have in stock are 8 speed and fitted with Shimano Nexus Hub Gear. Hub gears are low maintenence and high on performance. Hub gears allow you to change gear whilst stationary and also in motion! The chain on the Double Dutch is contained in a full chaincase which means it's sealed against the elements - this means less downtime for maintenence and no oily trouser legs/skirts.
The brakes are courtesy of Shimano - these are roller brakes. Again, roller brakes are less exposed to the elements than regular rim or disk brakes but are still powerful - especially in the wet.
Riding position
This is a Dutch bike so you can expect a sit up and beg upright position. A straight back is a pain -free back. An upright position is good for safety - you can see the hazards and also take in the view. The handlebars have variable height and reach to acheive the optimum riding position for you. A comfortable sprung saddle gives the feeling of gliding along.
Talking of which, the tyres on the Double Dutch are our favourites - Schwalbe Big Apple. These are fat enough to make them a built-in suspension for the bike. They are also extrememly resilient to punctures which is something you always want to avoid - especially when laden with child and cargo! They also have a reflective strip around the sidewall making you even more visible! The wheels are 26" with alloy rims and stainless steel spokes. Colour co-ordinated mudguards keeps the splash off your clothes.
Our verdict
This bike is a great do-it-all bike that will live with you for a long time - not just because it is extremely well made but becasue it is so versatile in its uses.
It's quite possible to fit TWO Bobike child seats to this bike one up front and one on the rear. Once it's finished being a 'Mother Bike' (easy; we ain't being sexist - this is what they are called Holland and beyond) remove the seats and you have a great 'Grocery Getter'. Strap a basket front and rear and you'll be impressed just how much these bikes can carry 30KG for the front rack and at least that on the back. It's definitely a Multi Purpose Vehicle and definitely not an SUV.
Colours - we have Red and Black (as in the pictures on this page)
Sizes - Mens (ie with a horizontal top tube) - 50cm or 55cm (this is the measurement of the seat tube from the centre of the crank to the top of the seat tube). Womens (ie with a sloping tube for step through) - 50cm only. The max rider weight for the Double Dutch is 125kg.

The Dutch ID Fillibus (above) is a great Cargo Bike that allows you to keep a close eye on your cargo since it is in front of you. It works well as a family shopping and odd-job bike but can also be transformed into a child carrying bike. They also make a superb delivery bike - the Dutch have been delivering on Fillibus bikes for years.
Dutch ID are also working on a simple adaptation which will allow the fitting of 2 Bobike child seats in the position where you see the box on the picture above. The Lorri (above) is a neat small-wheeled cargo bike that doesn't look like a Cargo Bike! Don't let the wheel size put you off - small wheels are stronger wheels! The front rack can carry up to 30kg and the rear; 25kg. Available with 3 speed Shimano Nexus hub gear.
